Tragic Collision in Henrico County Claims Pedestrian and Injures Truck Driver

A fatal accident occurred Thursday morning in Henrico County, Virginia, involving a pedestrian, a tractor-trailer, and a small delivery truck at the busy intersection of Williamsburg Road and South Laburnum Avenue. The incident resulted in the death of a local sign spinner and serious injuries to the truck driver, who had to be extricated from his vehicle and was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

According to the Henrico County Police Division, the crash took place around 11:45 a.m. and involved a collision between a small straight-truck and a tractor-trailer. The impact caused the larger vehicle’s trailer to jackknife and overturn, pinning the pedestrian beneath it. Emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene. The victim was identified as a sign spinner working in the vicinity, although the specific business he represented remains unconfirmed.

Neighbors described the scene as devastating, with one noting, “It looked really terrible. I was trying to remain hopeful but prepared for the worst.” The driver of the tractor-trailer was quickly rescued from the wreckage and is now fighting for his life.

Police spokesperson Karina Bolster confirmed that the truck was carrying a heavy load at the time of the crash, which contributed to the trailer overturning. She also noted that the incident marked the second pedestrian fatality in the area within a 24-hour period, prompting authorities to urge drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians to exercise increased caution.

The aftermath of the crash saw the closure of the surrounding roads until approximately 7 p.m., with cleanup and investigation efforts ongoing. In addition to the fatality, police reports indicate that two other vehicles collided in secondary incidents following the initial crash, and debris damage affected a third vehicle and an unattended motorcycle.

Local residents emphasized the importance of attentive driving, especially at busy intersections, citing distraction as a key factor in accidents. Authorities are currently requesting any witnesses or individuals with relevant information to come forward as they continue their investigation.
