Tragic Weekend in Henrico: Man Dies from Shooting Near West Broad Village, Suspects Face Murder Charges

In Henrico County, Virginia, a fatal shooting that took place over the weekend has resulted in the death of a 30-year-old man, prompting an upgrade in charges against two suspects. The incident occurred on Saturday evening in the vicinity of West Broad Village, an area known for its retail and residential mix.

The victim, identified as Julian Leshon McClenny of Drewryville, was shot around 8:45 p.m. in the parking lot of a business near the Whole Foods Market on West Broad Street. According to police reports, an altercation between McClenny and two individuals escalated into gunfire, leaving him with an apparent gunshot wound.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly and transported McClenny to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on September 5. His death has since been classified as a homicide, leading law enforcement to intensify their investigation.

Detectives from the Henrico Police Division received multiple tips from community members, which helped identify two persons of interest. Subsequently, on September 5, authorities arrested Deontae Marquel Winston, 33, and Katoya Brown, 35, both residents of Crewe.

Initially charged with malicious wounding and using a firearm during the commission of a felony, the charges against Winston and Brown have now been elevated to second-degree murder following McClenny’s death. The investigation continues as police seek additional information from the public.
