Hurricane Lorena has developed off the coast of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula, prompting authorities to issue a tropical storm warning for the region. The National Hurricane Center in Miami reports that the storm is anticipated to intensify over the next 24 hours, bringing potentially life-threatening conditions.

Meteorologists forecast up to 15 inches (38 centimeters) of rain in parts of the peninsula, raising concerns about flash floods and mudslides, especially in higher terrains. The storm’s current position places it approximately 120 miles (195 kilometers) south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, with maximum sustained winds reaching 75 mph (120 kph). Moving northwest at 14 mph (22 kph), Lorena’s trajectory continues to be closely monitored.
